DO YOUR RESEARCH

Identify the schools that will be represented.

GET READY

Have the following information ready to share with representatives:

Dress neatly; maintain eye contact when shaking hands.

Communicate with confidence.

PREPARE YOUR QUESTIONS

Show representatives that you have done your research and are genuinely interested in their school.

Ask questions that reflect your unique interests.
Avoid asking general questions like, "Does your school have a good [X] program?"

ASK MORE QUESTIONS

More potential questions to ask:

What programs or opportunities are unique to your school?
Does your school offer programs to help new students get oriented?
What characteristics do you seek in applicants to determine a “best fit” for your campus?
What are the application deadlines for your college?
Are there specific scholarship or program deadlines?
How successful are your graduates in finding jobs?
What can I do during my junior and senior years to best prepare for college?
Are there college-sponsored summer opportunities, courses or research programs?
Do you offer any special campus visit opportunities?
What do students love most about your college?

GET CONTACT INFORMATION

Ask for the college representatives’ contact information.

Within a day or two, send a thank-you note expressing your interest in their school; keep it short, polite and professional.
Include your contact information again: full name, address and phone number along with your high school and graduation year.
